As the European service Copernicus / ECMWF reports, May 2023 was 0.4 °C warmer globally than the 1991-2020 average. It was the second warmest May since the Copernicus data series began in 1979. Only May 2020 was warmer, at 0.47 °C above average. The May months of 2016 and 2017, on the other hand, were not much cooler: their average temperature was only 0.02 °C lower than this year’s May.

The global overview
Canada and the northern United States experienced a very warm month, with temperatures west of Hudson Bay more than 10°C above the 1991–2020 average. Numerous temperature records were broken, and record wildfires were recorded from British Columbia in the west to Newfoundland in the east.
In Africa, unusually high temperatures were recorded in South Sudan and the Central African Republic, and in the south in Botswana, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Several countries in Southeast Asia recorded the warmest day on record or the warmest day of May. The month was also warmer than the 1991-2020 average in much of South America.
In contrast, May 2023 was a relatively cold month in Australia. The average daily minimum temperature was the lowest since 1944. Northwest India recorded the eighth coldest average temperature since 1901. Average May in Europe
In most parts of Europe, the temperature in May 2023 was in the range of the 1991–2020 average. The month was slightly warmer than average in the western part of the continent and slightly cooler than average in the central and eastern areas. Only in the extreme northeast of the continent was the monthly temperature significantly above the 1991–2020 average.

Above-average air temperatures were recorded the strategic value of the call center in generating new customers over most of the ocean surface. El Niño conditions continued to develop in the eastern equatorial Pacific, bringing warm conditions.
The air temperature was unusually high over the awb directory Weddell Sea and east of the Antarctic coast to the Ross Sea, with regions with relatively mild temperatures extending northwards over much of the South Atlantic, Indian Ocean and Pacific Ocean.
Air temperatures were also above the 1990-2020 average in all tropical regions and in most of the North Pacific and North Atlantic, especially west of Europe and North Africa. Temperatures in the Arctic Ocean remained below average.
