Create a new data source
When you create a new Google Data Studio report, the first step is to link it to a data source. In fact, this is what the tool prompts you to do.

Below is a new blank report. In the right sidebar, you will see your different data sources. If you don’t have one yet or want to use a new one, click CREATE NEW DATA SOURCE.

Google Data Studio offers 18 native connectors mainly with Google data sources:

If you want to create reports with data from these sources, connecting is super easy. For example, for Google Ads or Google Analytics, you will be able to easily use data from your accounts in your reports and use most of the statistics available on these platforms.

If you want to integrate data from other sources , like Facebook Ads, LinkedIn Ads or Bing Ads, you have two options:

export the data to visualize and use Google Spreadsheet to integrate it into Google Data Studio
use a partner connector (we will see a little later what this is)
Insert charts

Several types of charts are available:

Filter your data by dates
You can use the Date range feature to create date filters that the user can modify as desired.

In the example below, we create a date filter that applies to all reports on the page. By default, the data for the previous month is displayed. The user can change the data range (without editing the report); the statistics displayed are then dynamically updated.

Filter your data by dimension

Similarly, you can also allow the user to filter the data by other dimensions by themselves, for example by:

In the example below, a filter by region is set up so that the user can distinguish their performance by geographic area.

Add calculated fields to your data source

Calculated fields allow you to create new metrics to combine multiple indicators from the same data source.

For example, let’s say you want to view the number of ad groups in each of your campaigns. You’ll need to create a new metric defined as below.

Use even more data sources with partner connectors
Partner connectors were not developed by Google. Some adb directory are freely available, others are paid. They allow you to directly connect a myriad of data sources to your Google Data Studio reports.

partner connectors

We notice many connectors from Supermetrics .

This is the tool I have been using for years to create Google Data Studio reports with Facebook Ads, LinkedIn Ads or Microsoft Advertising data. Indeed, Supermetrics for Google Data Studio allows you to access many additional connectors including Facebook Ads. This is a paid tool.

The basic package at $39 per month allows afghanistan phone library list access to three accounts within a single data source (Facebook Ads, LinkedIn Ads, Microsoft Advertising, Twitter Ads, etc.).

I highly recommend Supermetrics for reporting from data sources that are not included by default in Data Studio, especially for marketing reporting. You can test the tool for 14 days for free to get an idea of the reporting potential!

Edit Data Sources

The data format and indicator names can be modified directly on Google Data Studio. This feature is ultra practical and easy to use.

In just a few clicks, you can translate the names of your performance indicators (usually in English).
